Welcome to Something Nerd!

Hello there! My name is Cydoni (pronounced SID-uh-nee, like Sydney, Australia) and you're reading the very first blog post of Something Nerd -- congratulations!

Last Friday, my husband Francis and I held our third and final wedding celebration. That's right, we've had three different weddings in the last year: one at a Starbucks to sign the paperwork, one intimate DIY in our backyard to be covid-safe, and finally one post-covid wedding catered at a venue with all our loved ones. If we really wanted to, we still have time to have a fourth wedding before our official 1 year anniversary next week... but we don't want to. :)

Rather than pay for wedding planning services, we decided to plan everything ourselves. Francis's plan was quite simple: marry the woman he loves. I on the other hand live for leading creative projects and quickly realized that planning a wedding felt a lot like directing a theatre performance or leading an animation project, which are a hobby of mine and my day job respectively. It didn't take long for me to enjoy the stressful chaos that is wedding planning.

All of our wedding celebrations were wonderful in their own way, but our third wedding was a blast. Our whole wedding party and their guests stepped up to help decorate the venue, our super nerdy ceremony performance made people laugh and cry, and there wasn't a single lull in the three hours of karaoke we booked. The party ended with tons of smiles and tons of compliments. Many of our guests said it was the most fun wedding they had been to, and I left the party that night feeling rather accomplished.

By the time we were driving home the next day to begin our week long stay-cation honeymoon, I had already committed myself as my maid of honor's wedding planner and was passionately gushing to Francis about how I'd be an amazing wedding planner. After all, it combined a lot of things I already loved to do, and I was actually pretty good at it. Not to mention our three different weddings gave me a unique personal experience, and I could do a lot of good for people who want fun and nerdy weddings like the ones we had. Of course, I wouldn't jump on the idea. I'd think about it for a while, maybe see how much I enjoyed planning my best friend's wedding, and then maybe trying my hand at a planning service in a year or so.

That was about five days ago.

More inspired gushing to Francis and encouragement from my closest friends over the past few days has led me to creating Something Nerd. Credit to my friend Kay for the perfect name!

I have tons of plans and ideas, but for now, Something Nerd will just be a simple blog all about wedding planning tips and how to add that special nerdy flair to your wedding -- whether that's sharing a unity paopu fruit, serving your guests lembas bread, or starting off your ceremony with the word "mawaige". I have lots of ideas bouncing around in my brain just waiting to be released, but I won't go into much more detail lest I promise more than I can deliver.

Until then, I'll be exploring blogging and how to build this site to the best nerdy wedding resource it can be! Be sure to subscribe to blog updates so you don't miss out on all the fun!

Stay nerdy

Cydoni
